Orton-Gillingham Approach

Orton-Gillingham is the best method to help kids with dyslexia learn to read, write, and spell. Studies consistently show that OG's structured and individualized approach helps students make incredible progress in their journey to be lifelong readers, writers, and spellers.

I grew up understanding that math could be the best part of a my day. I couldn't believe that I got credit for what seemed like fun puzzles. Far too many kids are being left behind in today's math classes. The group moves on before the child fully understands the concept. If that happens, the student has a very hard time catching up. Math is like a staircase, if there are steps missing, you can never reach the top. I help kids fill in those missing gaps with one-on-one instruction which leaves no stone unturned. By mastering the fundamental rules of math, a child can start to look forward to math class.

US History

How the US Constitution and Supreme Court shaped America.

My background as an attorney gave me an education and appreciation of how our country has been shaped by our founding documents as well as how our Supreme Court has interpreted those documents. These lessons introduce the students to not only the text of the Constitution and its amendments, but also how our society, government, and individual rights have been shaped by our Federal courts. The students read the Constitution (with amendments), the Federalist Papers, the Articles of Confederation (our country's first constitution), and many of the most important SCOTUS decision.

About Me

How it all started

After practicing law for over a decade, I decided to change my life and follow my passion to teach. I started working in my son's school as an administrator, substitute teacher, and math and reading tutor. I immediately understood that I had found my calling. For the first time in my professional life, I was waking up before my alarm clock, excited about the day ahead.

Once I moved to Colorado, I started working at a local Waldorf School as an assistant teacher and reading, writing, and spelling tutor using the Orton-Gillingham approach. After everything went online in March of 2020, I started the incredible job of homeschooling my two boys and starting my official education in the Orton-Gillingham approach. As soon as I completed my second OG course, I started tutoring kids in person and online.

I love helping kids learn to love reading and math, and the Constitution. I am available to work in person in the Boulder, CO area and online for any location.

What Parents Are Saying

Casee D.

Kind, patient, friendly and super knowledgeable. Exactly what you want in an OG tutor working with kids! Lucas's help moving my dyslexic child from struggling to read and write to loving it has been invaluable!! Highly recommend!!!

Mother of 3rd Grader in Boulder County

We have always homeschooled, so using a tutor is something new to us. Lucas' help and insights have been a welcome addition to our homeschooling routine. Lucas meets my child where he's at each week, adjusting lessons to meet my child's current needs. Importantly, my little guy sees the whole session as a bunch of games that he gets to play with his new friend.
